COMPOUND URBAN COASTAL FLOOD MODELING: INTEGRATING TIDE, WAVES, PRECIPITATION AND HYDRAULIC INFRASTRUCTURE

Compound coastal flooding considers the joint impacts of marine and hydrologic interactions has recently been identified as an international research priority. Along US West Coast, winter storms often bring high water levels along with energetic waves precipitation. Hydrodynamic models have widely used to estimate flood impacts, including extreme estuarine in compound events (e.g., riverine discharge-tide-storm surge interactions), produced satisfactory results. However, few studies further consider overland flow routing high-resolution mapping highly urbanized, low-lying areas. Here, integrated Delft3D-FM based numerical modeling framework is explicitly resolve multi-pathway processes (i.e., levels, overtopping, precipitation) infrastructure seawalls, storm drains, artificial dunes).
